Welcome to St Andrew's Prospect
Welcome to Wood Dalling, one of North Norfolk’s best–kept secrets. The village is quite scattered and, they say, is ‘lovely – if you can find it.’ We hope you’ll agree. By now, you’ll be aware that it’s pretty peaceful here. Your only daily visitors are likely to be the pheasant and partridge who mooch about the place, the skylarks who sing regularly on either side of the property and the wagtails darting about the yard.
The view over the fields to the front of the cottage is toward the 13th century church of St Andrew, (hence the name of your home-from-home), well worth the stroll just to sit and contemplate, inside or out. Be aware, though, that the ducks on the adjacent pond do rather expect some form of introductory snack and so probably present the greatest fuss you’re likely to encounter locally.
Wood Dalling has a small village shop with post office and in the next village of Heydon, less than a mile from here, is the Earle Arms Inn, 16th century Freehouse & restaurant, and Heydon Tea Rooms. The village is one of few in the country still wholly Estate-owned. Unchanged by new buildings since 1887, it has played backdrop to many film and tv productions. Visitors are permitted to walk the extensive estate grounds. Salle Church, less than a mile from here in the other direction, is most impressive and its history is well-documented within, for your perusal. Reepham is the nearest market town, very charming, and offers a range of amenities.
Beyond the immediate area, of course, lies all that Norfolk has to offer. Eateries are generally of a high standard. There are National Trust properties (the nearest at Blickling), excellent walking, the opportunity to cycle, birdwatch or fish. Or just relax and do…nothing. This is your time, after all. All this is within easy reach of the historic city of Norwich, the Norfolk Broads and of course the wild and beautiful North Norfolk coast.
Please don’t hesitate to ask for any help you may require and do let us know if there’s anything we’ve overlooked that would make your stay here more comfortable or enjoyable. Constructive comments, positive or negative, are always welcome.
Above all, we hope you enjoy your time here.
